Website Maintenance & Support Packages

Your website should be working for your business, not sitting in the background becoming outdated, insecure or difficult to manage.

Our monthly website support and maintenance packages keep your WordPress or Next.js site secure, updated, backed up and monitored — with ongoing help on hand when you need small changes, fixes or advice.

Why ongoing website maintenance matters

A website isn't a thing you build once and leave alone. The software underneath — whether that's WordPress core and plugins, or Next.js, React and npm packages — keeps moving. So do the platforms, browsers and third-party services it relies on.

Without regular maintenance, sites quietly slow down, break in small ways, lose search visibility, and become a security risk. With it, they stay fast, secure and predictable.

  • Security vulnerabilities. New CVEs are reported every month against WordPress plugins, npm packages and the server software underneath. Unpatched sites get exploited — quietly at first, then publicly.
  • Software keeps moving. WordPress core, themes and plugins ship updates constantly. So do Node.js, React, Next.js and the npm dependencies they sit on. Skip a year and the upgrade gets expensive.
  • Platforms and hosting evolve. Vercel, your CDN, PHP versions and SSL certificates all change. Sites that aren't maintained start breaking in small ways — slower responses, failed builds, expired certs.
  • Third-party integrations drift. Stripe, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, payment gateways and SEO tools deprecate APIs. Something that worked at launch can silently stop sending leads months later.
  • Performance slips backwards. Image sizes, caching headers, bundle sizes and Core Web Vitals need regular review. A slow site quietly loses conversions and search rankings.
  • Backups and recovery. When an update, a hack or a botched deploy takes a site down, tested restore points are the difference between minutes of downtime and weeks of cleanup.

Maintenance, support or development: what's the difference?

People often use these three words interchangeably — and end up frustrated when something they thought was covered isn't, or pay for one when they needed another. Here's how we think about them.

  • Maintenance

    Keeping the site running.

Software updates, security patches, backups, uptime and monitoring. Behind-the-scenes housekeeping that visitors never see — but without it, the site eventually breaks.

    • WordPress core, theme and plugin updates
    • npm and Node.js version upgrades
    • SSL renewals and DNS checks
    • Daily backups and uptime monitoring
  • Support

    Small, in-the-moment help.

Reactive, time-bound help with content edits, small fixes and quick questions — "can you change this image?", "the contact form is sending to the wrong address". Billed against your included monthly hours.

    • Content and image updates
    • Small layout tweaks
    • Fixing broken links or forms
    • Quick "how do I…?" questions
  • Development

    Net-new work.

Building something new — a feature, a section redesign, a campaign landing page, a new third-party integration. Scoped and quoted as its own project, separate from your retainer.

    • New page templates or features
    • Redesigning a section
    • Integrating a new tool or API
    • Building campaign landing pages

Platform-specific care: WordPress & Next.js

Different platforms need different attention. We primarily build on Next.js and Vercel, and manage existing WordPress sites for clients who already have one. Here's what maintenance actually looks like on each.

WordPress

We manage existing WordPress sites for clients across the UK — keeping core, themes and plugins updated and the site secure, fast and online.

  • WordPress core, theme and plugin updates
  • WooCommerce, contact form and SEO plugin licence renewals
  • PHP version compatibility checks
  • Plugin conflict diagnosis when something breaks
  • Login hardening, file permissions and malware scans
  • Database optimisation and media library tidy-ups
  • Host migrations when needed

Next.js & Vercel

Our primary build stack. We maintain modern React sites on Vercel — keeping dependencies, framework versions and deploys healthy.

  • npm package and Node.js version upgrades
  • Next.js, React and TypeScript major version migrations
  • Vercel deploy monitoring and rollbacks
  • Environment variables and preview deploy hygiene
  • Build performance and bundle-size review
  • Image optimisation and ISR / cache config
  • npm vulnerability triage (Dependabot / Renovate)

What’s not included in our maintenance packages

Our maintenance packages cover the day-to-day work of keeping your website healthy, online and up to date. The following sit outside that scope — we're happy to quote for any of them separately.

Fair-usage and key terms

A few ground rules so expectations are clear from day one. Everything below is in the contract — nothing surprises you down the line.

Rollover
Unused support time doesn't roll over from one month to the next. Each month's hours reset on your renewal date — it keeps the package simple and predictable.
Working hours
Support is delivered Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm UK time, excluding UK public holidays.
Response vs fix time
We aim to respond to support requests within one working day. Response time is not the same as fix time — bigger fixes can take longer, but we keep you posted on progress.
Out-of-hours emergencies
Emergency support during working hours is included on the Partner package. Out-of-hours and weekend emergencies are billable at an emergency rate of £150/hr, with a minimum charge per call-out.
Overage rate
Once your monthly support time is used up, additional work is billed at £75/hr. We'll always check in before starting anything that would tip you into an overage.
Cancellation
Packages are billed monthly and can be cancelled with 30 days' notice.
